About the Associate delegates programme
The Associate delegates programme included:
- Tour to the Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem. This national museum shows the rich heritage of traditions and regional diversity of the Netherlands, focusing on the culture associated with the everyday lives of ordinary people in the past and present. In May 2005, the Open Air Museum was awarded the title of European Museum of the Year.
- Visit to the National Park 'Hoge Veluwe', situated north of Arnhem, approximately 55 square km in area and thus one of the largest nature reserves in the country. The 'Hoge Veluwe' is famous for its nature as well as its musea (www.krollermuller.nl). There was a guided tour through the well known Kröller Müller Museum with its considerable collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh, such as The Potato Eaters, Cafe Terrace at Night and Sorrowing Old Man ('At Eternity's Gate'), making it the second-largest collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world (after the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam). Apart from the Van Gogh paintings other highlights include works byPiet Mondrian, Georges-Pierre Seurat, Odilon Redon, Georges Braque, Paul Gauguin, Lucas Cranach, James Ensor, Juan Gris, and Pablo Picasso. Immediately outside the museum is large sculpture garden with a fine collection of modern and contemporary sculptures including works byAuguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Jean Dubuffet and many more.
- Dinner at 'Batavia Werf' in Lelystad, in the Flevopolder.
- Walk to the Arboretum De Dreyen and from there to the Arboretum Belmonte.
